Well, I guess I should start with why I've created the blog....
My two children are grown now, and I have much time on my hands now that the marching band concerts, soccer games, track meets and other school functions are all but fond memories.
For those of you that are parents, you know that your thoughts are on the here and now of working and raising your children. I know that I wasn't focused on life after the kids were grown and with all the convience that surrounds us...who gives much thought to all the what-ifs. I didn't, until recently.
I didn't think about whether I had the skills to provide for my family when the "conviences" might not be available. Then I got to thinking...what the heck would I do...what would happen if there was no electric for an extended period of time...and what would happen if I was unable to get gas for the vehicle...and God forbid if the grocery stores shelves where empty....all the what-ifs.....
I got to thinking about the afghans that my great-grandmother use to crochet and how she taught my grandmother to do the same. How I would sit with the left over scrap balls of yarn and practice with "gram" making different stitches (and how somewhere along my journey that crochet hook was put down and not picked up again). I started to think about how my cousin Patty, grows her own garden and cans everything that can't be consumed.
And then...I realized...I don't have to wait for a crisis to occur in order to get off my butt and "reinstate" the skills that have been used in years past, to prepare as best I can for the what-ifs.
This is my journey......
(and hopefully those that read my blog...can use some of the ideas, recipes, and other skills that may come up from time to time...to help them prepare for those what-ifs too. Oh and if you have ideas or suggestions...please share them)
